I TELL STORIES. I SOLVE PROBLEMS. I MAKE THINGS.

VISUAL DESIGNER (UI).  As a designer, my main focus is creating user interfaces (UI), pattern libraries, UI components, and layouts that are consistent with a brand’s visual design language.

  • Lead, inspire, and collaborate with teams to execute on the creative strategy for projects while focusing on innovation and quality
  • Articulate ideas and communicate with Creative Directors and team to determine visual style, messaging strategy, and conceptual direction
  • Collaborate with UX team, producers, developers, engineers, analytics, and QA to conceive and execute interaction models, information architectures, and design guidelines
  • Understand and work within project parameters such as client goals/requirements/expectations, internal goals, usability, technical constraints, as well as budget and schedule
  • Experiment with new tools, industry trends, and latest techniques to streamline projects and share insights with my team
  • Manage and coach the junior designers including providing art direction/design feedback, daily check-ins on progress/workload and instruction on general best practices for digital design

Stephanie approaches each project with passion and creative drive. This quality attitude proves itself on numerous projects she’s worked on.

Her strengths are her ideation and creative approach to her work and she’s always been one of the strongest designers in the department.

From her eagerness to seek out teachers for new techniques and understanding, to the patience and dedication she has shown on the toughest projects, she is one of my most valued colleagues.
— NICOLAS DAVISON, Director of Web Development at Mirum Agency
You’ve done an amazing job of balancing the various teams needs, from thinking strategically to pushing both low-fi and high-fi prototypes for people, customers and team members to react to.

It’s truly been an honor to work along side of you and appreciate your willingness and easy-going approach to drive deep design expertise into our experiments.
— JUSTIN MARR, Chief Design Strategist at Intuit

ADVOCATE FOR THE USER. ALWAYS.

USER EXPERIENCE (UX). As an experience designer, I focus on how the end-to-end experience flows for each user scenario. A given design problem has no single right answer, so I explore different approaches to solving a user problem one logical step at a time. It's my goal to emotionally engage the user with moments of delight and ease - while eliminating stumbling blocks. I continue to refine and iterate until I create the "best" user experience.

SOME of the TOOLS, METHODS AND DELIVERABLES that I WORK WITH include:

  • Benchmarking
  • Card sorting
  • Personas/Use Cases
  • Journey maps
  • Storyboarding
  • Information architecture (IA)
  • Sitemaps
  • Wireframes
  • Prototypes (Lo-Fi/Hi-Fi)
  • Interaction flows
  • User research (Lab/In-the-wild)
  • End-to-end experiences

THE END RESULT is only as strong as the process that led there.

I also teach EXPERIENCE Design at San Diego Portfolio Studio

GOAL: TO HELP CREATIVES BUILD BETTER PORTFOLIOS

San Diego Portfolio Studio is an award-winning portfolio advancement center that helps designers build new, conceptually based work or polish up what they already have. There are no grades, no tests, no long-term commitments, and no big costs.

The Studio is small and classes have no more than a dozen people - the perfect size for personalized attention. And, their nimble size lets them change and stay connected with an industry that is always moving.

SDPS students took home 32 National, District and Local ADDYS this year—including the coveted National BEST OF SHOW Award!

BENEFITS OF MENTORING

  • Sharing my passion with students and instructors in the creative industry who have the same energy and drive about design.
  • Staying connected with other professionals in my field keeps me up to date on latest industry trends, tools, and best practices. Never stop learning!
  • The opportunity to practice my speaking and presentation skills.
  • The warm fuzzy feeling I get when a student reaches out to tell me about a new job/project or perhaps needs a little career guidance.
